The dramatic victory kept Kolkata in the playoff race

Chasing 172 runs on Thursday (May 4), Hyderabad’s innings stopped at 166 after losing 8 wickets at the end of the scheduled over.
Kolkata captain Nitish Rana won the toss and decided to bat in the opponent’s field. The pitch was slow at first due to the rain. Because of this Kolkata’s top-order batsmen could not take any advantage. Jason Roy took 20 runs off 19 balls but Rahmanullah Gurbaz hit a golden duck and Venkatesh Iyer was out for 7 off 4 balls. However, Rinku Singh and Nitish Rana handled the middle order with responsible batting.
Rinku is consistently getting runs in the entire IPL. It was easier for KKR to cross 150 runs in this match with Rinku, who has been running regularly. Nitish’s contribution is not less. Nitish scored 42 runs from 31 balls hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes. On the other hand, Rinku scored 46 runs off 35 balls with 4 fours and 1 six before being dismissed in the last over of the innings. Moreover, KKR scored 171 runs by losing 9 wickets at the end of the scheduled over with 24 runs from 15 balls by Andre Russell and 13 runs from 7 balls by Anukul Roy.
All the bowlers have seen wickets for Hyderabad on this day. Marco Jansen and Natarajan took a maximum of 2 wickets each. Bhuvneshwar, Karthik Tyagi, Markram, and Mayank Markande took 1 wicket each. Chasing 172 runs, Hyderabad lost 4 wickets within 54 runs and came under pressure. Rahul Tripathi 20 from 9 balls, Mayank Agarwal 18 from 11 balls, Abhishek Sharma 9 from 10 balls, and Harry Brook was out for zero runs. After the departure of these four, the match went under the control of KKR. But Aiden Markram and Enrique Klaasen scored 70 runs in the fifth wicket partnership to bring the match back in their favor.
Classen was out for the team’s 124 runs, but Markram kept one end. Classen was dismissed for 36 off 20 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes. Markram was dismissed for 145 runs. 41 runs from 40 balls and hit 4 fours from his bat. When he got out, Hyderabad needed 27 runs from 19 balls to win.
But the tail-ender batters failed to take it. Especially in the last over, only 9 runs were required, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mayank Markande could not take more than 3 runs from 6 balls scored by Varun Chakraborty.
