Kyle Jamieson felt some tightness in his hamstring after coming back from Bangladesh, where the Black Caps played in the two-match World Test Championship series. Jamieson flew to Dunedin on Thursday, a couple of days after the Test squad returned to New Zealand on Tuesday evening. New Zealand Head Coach Gary Stead decided to keep Jamieson out as a precaution.

“We’re taking a cautious approach with Kyle [Jamieson],he said.

“We want to be cautious with his return, especially at the beginning of our home summer. While he could play if absolutely necessary, we don’t want to take any unnecessary risks. That’s why we’ve brought in Ben for the first match.

“Sears hasn’t played in an ODI yet, but he was part of the squad for last year’s Chappell-Hadlee Series in Cairns. He’s already made his debut for the Black Caps in the shortest format.

“Ben is familiar with the team environment, and it’s great to see him back at full fitness for the Firebirds.

“The three-match ODI series starts on December 17, with matches in Dunedin, Nelson, and Napier.”

New Zealand squad:
Tom Latham, , Finn Allen, Jacob Duffy,Adam Milne, Tom Blundell,Will Young, Ben Sears, Adi Ashok (matches 2 and 3),Kyle Jamieson, Mark Chapman, Josh Clarkson,  Will O’Rourke, Rachin Ravindra, Ish Sodhi (match 1), Henry Nicholls.

In a peculiar turn of events on the opening day of the second Test against New Zealand, former captain Mushfiqur Rahim secured an unusual place in Bangladesh cricket history. The 36-year-old cricketer found himself becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to be declared out for ‘obstructing the field.’ The incident unfolded when Rahim, facing a delivery from New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson in the 41st over, defended a rising ball. In an attempt to fend off a wide delivery outside the off stump, Rahim extended his right hand. The Black Caps promptly appealed, leading the on-field umpires to refer the matter to TV umpire Ahsan Raza, who ultimately ruled Rahim out.

This dismissal falls under Law 37.1.2, stating that a striker is out obstructing the field if, in the act of receiving the ball, they willfully strike the ball with a hand not holding the bat. The alteration in cricket laws in 2017 reclassified such dismissals from “handled the ball” to “obstructing the field.”

Notably, the last instance of a batter being given out ‘handling the ball’ was former England captain Michael Vaughan against India in 2001. Rahim, Bangladesh’s top-scorer in the match with his 35 off 83 balls, played a pivotal role despite the team being bundled out for 172 in 67 overs. The hosts had previously clinched victory in the first Test in Sylhet by 150 runs.

Kyle Jamieson Joins New Zealand Squad for ODI World Cup

In a recent development, New Zealand has brought in pace bowling all-rounder Kyle Jamieson to bolster their squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup in India. The strategic move was made in response to an unfortunate injury sustained by Matt Henry during a match against South Africa in Pune.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) released a statement confirming the addition of Kyle Jamieson to the BLACKCAPS ICC Cricket World Cup squad. Interestingly, Jamieson had previously served as cover for Tim Southee earlier in the tournament. He is set to join the team in Bengaluru, arriving late on Thursday, just in time for their upcoming game against Pakistan.

The decision to enlist Jamieson as cover stems from the uncertain status of Matt Henry’s right hamstring, as well as Lockie Ferguson’s ongoing recovery from an Achilles injury. Coach Gary Stead emphasized the importance of maintaining a full complement of bowlers for the upcoming match against Pakistan.

Stead clarified: “We could not risk having a bowler down for Saturday due to the severity of Matt’s injury and the short turnaround time for the Pakistan match. Matt has been a world-class performer for us in ODI cricket over the past two World Cup cycles, so we’ll have our fingers crossed for the scan results later today.”

Furthermore, Coach Stead expressed his confidence in Kyle Jamieson’s readiness to contribute to the team’s success.

“Kyle is in route right now and we’re excited to have him rejoin the group. He will likely train with us on Friday with the intention of being available for Saturday’s game. Kyle had the opportunity to train with us for two full weeks earlier in the tournament and has also played a Plunket Shield match. “We are confident that he will be able to hit the ground running,” Stead said.

New Zealand’s next challenge awaits them in the form of a match against Pakistan in Bengaluru on Saturday. They currently stand at number four in the points table with four wins and three losses, hoping to continue their strong performance in the tournament.

New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson, who starred for the team with three wickets on Day 1 of the Kanpur Test against India, said that him and Tim Southee enjoyed bowling early on since there was some movement and things seemed familiar. New Zealand have pitches back home that offer plenty of seam and swing and Jamieson was pleased to discover some assistance in Kanpur.

The tall fast bowler got the key scalps of Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane to put India under pressure before debutant Shreyas Iyer (75*) and Ravindra Jadeja (50*) lifted the hosts with a century stand.

Speaking at the end of the first day’s play, Jamieson asserted that the visitors bowled pretty well. He stated, “I thought we were pretty good. Certainly, we had our discussions before the game and we were lucky to find some movement early on and it was a bit more familiar to us. So we fell back on that./p>

Jamieson did not feature in the T20 World Cup games and was also not seen in action during the T20I series against India. The 26-year-old described the unexpected break as a blessing in disguise. He pointed out, “It was certainly nice to get back out there. It was probably a good thing not having the game time. I have every chance to step back and actually work on (my game) so at the end of a long year, when you actually have the chance to take a step back it’s quite pleasing and it’s nice to be back on the park playing Test cricket./p>

Indian opener Shubman Gill, who scored a fluent 52 before being cleaned up by Jamieson, admitted that he did not expect the ball to reverse so early. He also praised the Kiwi pacer for making life difficult for the Indian batters.

The youngster commented, “Sometimes, it’s difficult to start knowing when it’s reverse-swinging and especially after coming back from lunch, I didn’t expect the ball to reverse that early in the game.

“That’s the thing about Test cricket, you have to read the conditions fast. In this particular innings, I wasn’t able to read that ball well as generally, I wasn’t expecting the ball to reverse,” he added.

India will resume their innings at 258 for 4 on Day 2 of the Kanpur Test. Iyer is 25 away from becoming the latest Indian to smash a hundred on Test debut.
