Afghanistan has officially disclosed its 17-member squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023, which is set to commence on August 30. The tournament will be held across venues in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Adjustments to the Roster

In preparation for the Asia Cup, Afghanistan has introduced a few alterations to their squad that previously faced Pakistan in a recent three-match ODI series. Notably, Azmatullah Omarzai and Wafadar Momand have been omitted from the Asia Cup selections. This decision comes as Omarzai sustained a side strain during the series against Pakistan.

Conversely, Afghanistan’s revamped squad welcomes back established players including Karim Janat, Najibullah Zadran, and Sharafuddin Ashraf. Karim Janat’s return is especially noteworthy as he is making a comeback to the ODI format after a hiatus since 2017.
