Kolkata took him as Shakib’s replacement

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has withdrawn himself from the sixteenth season of IPL. Shakib did not get a no-objection letter to play in the entire season of IPL due to domestic games. So the decision was taken. In place of this all-rounder, however, KKR has added a devastating batsman to the team. Kolkata Knight Riders have added English opener Jason Roy to the team as a replacement for Shakib Al Hasan. They brought this English star to the team for 2.8 crore rupees. The Kolkata franchise has confirmed this. In the 2023 mini-auction, Roy’s base price was Rs 1.5 crore. But he remained unsold at the auction. Even though the IPL season has just started, Kolkata is in trouble for various reasons.

Regular captain Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out due to injury. He will undergo back surgery in London ahead of the final of the World Test Championship. On the other hand, Shakib Al Hasan withdrew himself from the home and away series against Ireland for the country. He will not get a chance to play several matches at the beginning and end of these two series. Roy has previously featured in the IPL for four teams – KKR, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Lions, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He last played in the IPL for the Sunrisers in the 2021 season. Sebar scored 150 runs in five matches with a half-century. Roy scored 1522 runs at a strike rate of 137.61 in 64 T20s for the country. He scored 8 fifties.
