The four-six over IPL is going on from Friday (March 31, 2023). On an opening day at 8 pm Bangladesh time, last season’s champion Gujarat Lions and four-time champion Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings are facing each other. Which can be seen live on Star Sports. There are five interesting new rules in this two-month-long IPL. Which will increase the attraction of IPL. Let’s take a look at the new rules.

New Rule-1: In the previous seasons, the captains had to submit the best eleven to the match referee before the toss. But under the new rules, after the toss, the teams will submit their best eleven to the match referee.

New Rule-2: In this season, a substitute player (Impact Player/Tactical Substitution) can be dropped at any time in the match. And this replacement player can also bat, bowl, and field. Can’t just captain.

New Rule-3: Earlier DRS was used only for outs. But in the 2023 IPL, there is also DRS for ‘Wide’ and ‘No Ball’. It is believed that this will avoid many controversies in IPL matches.

New Rule-4: If the wicketkeeper behaves or moves in a lewd manner before the ball is bowled, he may be penalized. If this happens, the umpire can declare the ball as a dead ball or give a penalty of 5 runs. The same will apply to fielders.

New Rule-5: There will be an immediate penalty for ‘slow over rate’ this season. 20 overs must be completed within the allotted 90 minutes. If a team fails to do so, a fielder must remain within the 30-yard circle for the rest of the time, until the end of the over.

Ten franchises will participate in this year’s event. After 2019, IPL is going to be played on a home-and-away basis for the first time. Like last season, the teams have been divided into two groups. Group A has Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants. On the other hand, Group B has Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. As per the rules, a team will play each team in its group once and teams from other groups twice. Thus, each team will play a total of 14 matches. A total of 70 matches will be played in the group stage in 52 days from March 31 to May 21 in 12 cities.

Dhoni stands in front of the ‘milestone’ at the beginning of the end. The sixteenth season of IPL is waiting to be played. With the match between the current champion Gujarat Titans and the four-time champion Chennai Super Kings, a new season in the IPL will take place at 8 pm Bangladesh time. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is expected to lead Chennai in this match. He has a few injury problems though. But he is fit to play. If Dhoni takes to the field today, he will set a precedent for playing in every season of IPL since 2008. Not only that but if he can score 22 runs with the bat against Gujarat today, this veteran cricketer will also touch a new milestone. Dhoni has played a total of 234 matches for two franchises (Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Super Giants) in all previous editions of the IPL. He scored 4 thousand 978 runs. If he scores 22 runs today, he will touch the milestone of 5000 runs as the seventh batsman in the history of IPL.

Virat Kohli tops this list with 6,624 runs played in 223 matches. Also, there are Shikhar Dhawan (6244), David Warner (5881), Rohit Sharma (5879), Suresh Raina (5528), and AB de Villiers (5162). The 41-year-old Dhoni, however, is not in his best form. But his presence and leadership will surely energize Chennai. It is believed that this is going to be Dhoni’s last IPL.
