“I don’t think about past-future”

Nurul Hasan Sohan is proud to captain the T20 team for the tour of Zimbabwe. But don’t get too excited. The three-match T20 series will begin with the goal of improvement. Nurul Hasan believes in playing fearless cricket. In his first press conference as the captain at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday, he said that he wants to play well as a team.

Q: How do you feel about getting the captaincy?
Nurul Hasan: Being a captain is a matter of pride. Thinking about the challenges ahead, there is no opportunity to show too much excitement. The goal is to play as a team and give your best.
Question: Where to improve in T20 cricket?
Nurul Hasan: While being captain in domestic cricket, there is a desire to play as a team. Zimbabwe will also aim to play as a team. The team atmosphere is important to me. Not everyone will perform every day. We who will be team members 14-15 should enjoy each other’s success. This culture and playing as a team are important to me.
Question: In T20, where do you need to improve?
Nurul Hasan: We are lagging in Test and T20. I will try to improve here. That’s why the process is important. I will try that from the result. Team play is very important to me in this series.
Question: Captained for three matches. After that, if there is a captain in the Asia Cup or the World Cup, how do you plan to proceed?
Nurul Hasan: If I talk about cricket or anything else in my personal life, the expectations are very low. I will work hard, follow the process and be honest. I don’t think much about results, future, or past. I stay away from stress for a long time.
Question: Have you talked to the seniors? How ready to take the challenge?
Nurul Hasan: Talked to everyone. Brother Mahmudullah, brother Shakib and everyone. Of course, I’m ready. You have to think about the team separately. The power play is important in T20. We are trying to improve in that area. Hope we can do well.
Q: No seniors in this series, team culture…
Nurul Hasan: The contributions of our seniors in Bangladesh cricket will not end in one word. This is an opportunity for us to move forward. It is the responsibility of those of us who are juniors or playing to take the team to the next level.
The Bangladesh team’s dressing room environment has improved a lot in the last few years. We can do this better. It is important to improve the areas where there are problems.
Question: Despite doing a lot of things, the results are not coming in T20. What things would you like to add to your leadership?
Nurul Hassan: It is important to play cricket without fear. I will try it. If you think about the result in advance, the process is not right. That’s why the process is important. Don’t worry about the results. If you are fearless, you will be more likely to get positive results. They can play without thinking about anything else. If there is fear in the mind, negative things will fill.
Q: Did the selectors talk to you about the Zimbabwe tour team?
Nurul Hasan: I talked with selectors after coming from West Indies. When I was informed it was still talked about, there weren’t many options here. Those who have been playing for the last few years are there. Again there was not much time for discussion. I am happy with the team I got.
